Florence Nightingale used to visit and care for wounded soldiers at night with a small lamp in her hand, earning her the moniker “The Lady with a Lamp.” Her tireless dedication to caregiving paved the way for the professionalization of the practice of nursing. A true innovator, she introduced hospital designs that improved ventilation, reduced crowding and upheld strict sanitary requirements. Her efforts decreased the mortality rate of her hospital by an incredible two-thirds.
In the spirit of Florence Nightingale’s dedication and commitment to innovation, Nightingale Home Healthcare strives to provide the highest quality home health care services to senior citizens. Nightingale pioneered the use of emerging technologies in their services, such as installing monitoring systems to record their patients’ vital signs within the safety and comfort of their own homes. Such innovations helped them expand to over 500 employees in 11 offices across the country.
Managing the growth of such a large and mobile workforce, however, started to impair Nightingale’s productivity. Processing requests became painstakingly slow and it was difficult to track and coordinate so many employees spread across different locations.
It was at this point that Nightingale’s web and art director, Rajesh Relan, realized that the solution lies in going paperless. He needed an online database that could monitor employee movement, streamline workflows and share real-time data across various locations.
Relan looked at different options and considered hiring web developers to create online database applications for Nightingale. However, the service fees were prohibitively expensive and there was no guarantee that they’d be able to finish the project quickly.
Despite the setbacks he encountered, Relan became even more determined to reach the goal of going paperless. He spent hours scanning the web for the right solution until he finally found Caspio.
Relan first started using Caspio’s low-code application development platform to build simple submission forms. From this, he quickly finished projects that processed time-off requests, scheduled appointments, and managed customer testimonials. Using Caspio’s visual point-and-click application builder, Relan was able to capture data, share information and automate business processes with ease. He went on to create more complex applications that automated Nightingale’s various training, certification and compliance programs.
With Relan’s dedication and Caspio’s all-in-one platform, Nightingale successfully became a paperless organization and improved the overall quality of their health care services — something Florence Nightingale would be proud of.
