Sustainable Business Oregon recently built a database-driven events calendar using Caspio’s new Calendar DataPage, creating an online portal for the community to view and contribute local events pertaining to their topic of interest. It’s a fantastic example of how the new feature can be used to not only organize and display data, but add interactivity to a website and engage the local community.
A division of American City Business Journals, Sustainable Business Oregon is dedicated to covering the news and issues of interest of Oregon’s green business community, and giving voice to a growing field of experts in sustainability and business.
Their events calendar is community-driven, displaying date-centric information in an easy-to-read weekly format that allows users to easily submit and scan through local events. Because the new calendar DataPage has the same powerful functionality of Report DataPages, including point-and-click customization and drill-down reporting, they completed the project without relying on assistance from their IT department.
“The calendar function has allowed us to display a range of customized event listings with minimal upkeep. Users submit events through an online form; all we have to do is approve them and they’re listed on a clean, attractive calendar. The calendar was simple to customize, thanks to Caspio’s outstanding phone support.”

And they don’t just talk about a greener way of life. By using Caspio’s online database platform, Sustainable Business Oregon is able to shrink their own carbon footprint by eliminating the inefficiencies of paper forms and reducing the need to house their own data centers. With less time and resources spent on programming, they’re able to focus on delivering the latest news to their readers.
In addition to the online calendar, they have also utilized Caspio in a number of web applications, including directories, nomination and resource submission forms, and a job listing portal. We’re excited to be a part of their mission and see what they’ll build next!
